Rather than relying on decorative elements alone, different surface levels are introduced into the acetate front to create a more dimensional appearance. The translucent material further enhances the effect by allowing the contours and polished edges to remain visible from different viewing angles.
The temple continues this design language through contrasting acetate and a carefully controlled transition from a wider front section to a slimmer rear profile.
Multi-Level Front Design
One of the key features of this frame is its multi-level acetate front.
Different depths, contours and surface heights are created around the eyewire, giving the frame greater dimension than a conventional flat acetate front.
Transparent and translucent acetate make these details particularly visible, as light interacts with the different surfaces and polished edges.
The depth, width and contour of each level can also be adjusted during custom development to create different visual effects.

Two-Part Acetate Temple Design
The temple uses a two-part acetate construction, combining a patterned acetate section near the hinge with a contrasting acetate section forming the main temple body.
The main temple section is shaped with a wider front connection area and a slimmer rear profile. The patterned acetate is precisely joined to this wider front section, creating a clear contrast between the two materials while maintaining a smooth, flush surface after finishing.
This construction allows different acetate patterns and colors to become part of the temple structure itself, rather than simply adding a decorative surface effect.

5-Axis CNC for Multi-Level Structures
For more complex multi-level designs, 5-axis CNC machining can be used to create different depths, angled surfaces and three-dimensional contours directly from the acetate material.
Compared with a simple flat cutting process, multi-axis machining provides greater control over the relationship between each surface and helps maintain consistency across the frame.
For less complex structures, the dimensional effect can also be achieved through controlled multi-step CNC machining and milling according to the design.
The machining program, tool path and cutting depth are adjusted according to the required geometry so that the intended levels remain clearly defined before finishing.
Acetate Lamination & Temple Shaping
The contrasting temple detail is created by joining two different acetate sections—a patterned acetate section near the hinge and a second acetate color for the main temple body.
The main temple section retains a wider area at the front for the laminated connection, while the rear section is machined into a slimmer temple profile.
After the two acetate sections are precisely joined, further machining and finishing ensure:
* A clean junction between the two acetate colors
* Accurate matching between left and right temples
* A smooth, flush surface at the joined area
* A well-defined wider front section and slimmer rear temple profile
This process integrates the acetate color combination directly into the temple construction, creating both structural and visual detail.

Surface Finishing & Polishing
For transparent and multi-level acetate frames, polishing quality directly affects how clearly the dimensional structure can be seen.
During the tumbling stage, we use Italian-imported high-gloss polishing compound, helping the acetate achieve a smooth and bright surface even before final hand polishing.
Experienced polishing technicians then work from multiple angles, paying particular attention to the layered contours, edges, corners and laminated transition areas.
The objective is not simply to make the frame glossy. The polishing process must also preserve the CNC-defined levels and fine structural details, while achieving a clean and refined surface.

Custom Development
The multi-level structure can be adapted to different frame shapes and design concepts. Acetate colors, patterns, laminated combinations, CNC contours and temple proportions can all be developed according to project requirements.
This gives brands more flexibility to create their own dimensional acetate designs rather than simply changing the color of an existing frame.
